Fourth championship match and fourth win for Prosecco DOC Imoco Volleyball’s Italian champions, who today completed their triptych of winning away matches in Rome and return to Conegliano with points and high morale for an overall condition growing from match to match.

As usual in away matches, there is a full house at the Palasport on Viale Tiziano to watch the match against the Panthers. Coach Santarelli, always attentive to the rotations of his entire team, lines up Wolosz-Haak, Fahr-Chirichella, Lukasik-Lanier, libero De Gennaro from the start.
The host “Wolves,” fresh from their Challenge Cup success with the Croatian Karlovac team, line up Mirkovic-Orvosova, Ciarrocchi and Schoelzel in the middle, slappers Rotar and Provaroni, libero Zannoni.

The first two points immediately send the European champions ahead with Fahr and Haak, but Schoelzel with a hat trick (wall and two aces) makes the Roman crowd explode. Prosecco DOC Imoco lets the hosts vent, then tries to push with Haak’s points that concretize the good Gialloblù defense (6-9). Orvosova’s serves put the Panthers’ reception in trouble and Rome takes advantage, Provaroni ties and the first set travels in balance. Rome remains effective with defense and an Orvosova dueling with Haak on high percentages (14-14), then the defenses of the “lupe” make Conegliano lose patience a bit, committing a few too many errors and suffering a mini-break (18-15). Captain Wolosz restores calm, relies on Bella Haak to come back, then an excellent Sarah Fahr (4 points with 75% in the set) raises the wall and the tie comes.

In the final sprint still some moments of difficulty for Conegliano and Rome goes back ahead (21-18), another time out by coach Santarelli who also sends in Gabi in the second line, then the joker Bardaro. Rome insists, Zannoni defends everything, Schoelzel (6 points in the set) and Orovosova seal heavy points for the 23-19 that launches the Capitoline women, but it will be an illusion. Prosecco DOC Imoco in fact doesn’t go for it, the second line with Moki-Gabi-Bardaro becomes impenetrable, Lukasik (6 points in the set) and Haak (8 for the Swede) shoot hard and it comes to an immediate tie (23-23). At bat it’s Anna Bardaro’s turn, great entrance in the finale of the baby from Montebelluna who places two aces in a row that seal the 23-25 6-0 the Panthers’ tail stroke to close the set.

Second set and Prosecco DOC Imoco still has to fight for a long time with Mirkovic and her teammates taking advantage of the crowd’s drive to make the match lively and balanced. Coach Santarelli’s team tries to break away in the score, but the hosts respond with grit relying on Orvosova and central Schoelzel. Point by point, however, the furrow opens up, and it is Chirichella (another game of substance with 8 points and 3 walls at the end) with attack and “block” who launches the Panthers (6-10) and coach Cuccarini calls time out. Martyna Lukasik and Khalia Lanier in attack travel fast and Conegliano stretches again taking the lead (8-13). De Gennaro and teammates got into a good rhythm (12-17). Haak (6 points in the set) hammers away (14-19), then Chirichella (5 points in the set with 2 walls) and Fahr, well urged on by Asia Wolosz, go on to score (17-23). The high Gialloblù attack percentages facilitate the close: 17-23 and it’s 2-0.

Third set with rocket start of SMI Roma Volleyball good at waking up the audience of Viale Tiziano putting under the Panthers in the start (5-1). Immediate time out by coach Santarelli. Prosecco DOC Imoco puts pressure on the serve and with Fahr and Haak gets back on track (8-5). An excellent Orvosova with the cooperation of Rotar (6 points apiece in the set) keeps SMI Roma ahead (13-10). Conegliano has to chase, on 16-14 coach Santarelli pulls the move out of the hat: enter the double change with Seki and Adiwge, but there is a surprising Provaroni to hit for the new +4 (18-14). Merit Adiwge (4 points in the set in just a few exchanges!), in confidence after the great test in Perugia, immediately fires a super attacking hat trick for -2, then Fahr places the 18-19 shot. The Wolves, however, are team of character and regain the lead (23-19). Again Fahr (5 points in the set) fuels the yellow-blue flame with the wall (23-21). After time out Moki De Gennaro defends and Lukasik scores (-1), but Rotar seals the 24-22. The first set ball is canceled, but the second is the good one for Orvosova. First set lost by the Panthers in this championship with 25-23 rewarding the Capitoline women in a sprint.

The match becomes more and more heated from a competitive point of view, De Gennaro and her teammates try to put on a show early in the fourth set, but the home team is in a competitive trance and finds unexpected solutions, with grit and great application Cuccarini’s team absorbs the first yellow-blue wave and then even goes ahead: 12-10, Conegliano is under pressure. Enter Gabi and her great friend Isabelle Haak greets her with two points in a row for parity at 13. The fresh and spirited Brazilian seals the winning wall and attack to overtake (15-17). Time out by coach Cuccarini. Rotar immediately equalizes, it’s not over against an indomitable Roma Volleyball.

The fourth set continues in a very hot atmosphere, Gabi takes no notice and churns out shots of crystal class (18-20), but Orvosova keeps SMI alive. Prosecco DOC Imoco tightens the ranks, Gabi and De Gennaro’s defenses pick up the pace, the “usual” Bella Haak (9 points in the set, she will be MVP with 27 in total!), a brilliant Lukasik (12 points at the end for the Polish setter) in “finisseur” version sign the points of 19-22. It is an important break because from there the Panthers get exhilarated and fly to their fourth three-point success in four matches. The worthy closing of a very beautiful match is by Gabi who takes the stage in the finale: the Brazilian star snatches a standing ovation from the opposing crowd with an incredible backhanded footwork over the advertising leds after a miracle by De Gennaro, then Sarah Fahr (imperious match with 15 points, 2 walls and 60%) walls and Conegliano closes in beauty with an overwhelming final: 20-25 and mission accomplished with the third winning away match in a row for coach Santarelli’s team.

With the mini-tour away from home over, the Panthers are now expected to play two matches at Palaverde,
this Sunday, Oct. 27, with Volley Bergamo (5 p.m.) and Sunday, Nov. 3, at 4:30 p.m. with Savino del Bene Scandicci. Tickets available online at www.vivaticket.it.
