With today’s victory at the Ulker Sport Arena in Istanbul in the CEV Champions League final against Savino del Bene Scandicci, A. Carraro Prosecco DOC Conegliano won its THIRD CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, the second consecutive, the FIFTH TROPHY OF THE SEASON after the Super Cup, the Club World Cup, the Italian Cup and the Scudetto.
For the first time in the club’s history, the Panthers won 5 trophies in a single season, completing a resounding Grand Slam of successes. It is a historic milestone for Italian volleyball, only Vakifbank Istanbul managed it in the 2017/18 season.
It is the 22nd match in a row won in the Champions League, a success at the height of the fourth final in the last 5 editions of the competition, the A. Carraro Prosecco DOC has won all the trophies of the last two seasons, in Italy no one had ever managed it so far.
After today’s victory, 29 trophies have shone in the yellow-blue club’s trophy cabinet since 2012, the year it was founded: 8 Scudetti, 3 Club World Cups, 3 Champions Leagues, 7 Italian Cups and 8 Italian Super Cups.
The only player present at all the victories is the veteran Monica De Gennaro, who wins her third Champions League on a par with Asia Wolosz, Gabi Guimaraes, Zhu Ting, Isabelle Haak and Sarah Fahr. Second success, however, for Marina Lubian, Khalia Lanier, Cristina Chirichella and Anna Bardaro; first European hurrah for Nanami Seki, Katja Eckl, Merit Adigwe and Martyna Lukasik. Also for coach Daniele Santarelli this is the third CEV Champions League won, as well as the 26th trophy as head coach of the Panthers.
Zhu Ting also becomes the only player in volleyball history to have two seasons as a Grand Slam, with 5 trophies in one fell swoop.
Team, staff and management will celebrate an ALL-IN season tomorrow evening from 20:30 in Piazza Cima in Conegliano together with all the fans.
