The world champions’ championship is back: the 81^ edition of women’s A1 begins with Monday Night, the Prosecco DOC A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano champion of Italy faces the Eurotek Laica UYBA on the first day at the E-Work Arena.
A first-level audience in the Busto Arsizio arena to kick off the dances, for the official debut of the season coach Daniele Santarelli deploys Wolosz-Haak in the diagonal, Gabi and Zhu are the bands, Lubian and Chirichella the middle, the libero is De Gennaro. On the other side, coach Enrico Barbolini relies on Boldini-Obossa in the diagonal, Gennari and Parra are the wings, van Avermaet and Eckl the middle, Pelloni is the libero.
In the first set, the Panthers chase by staying inside the set until the end: 2 points from Zhu (including 1 block) and another 2 from Haak give the first break to the yellow-blues (11-11 and 4-0), who remain in the wake also thanks to Gabi’s 14-14. Coach Santarelli changes the diagonal and inserts Ewert with Adigwe (23-18), as well as bringing more centimeters to the front line with Daalderop, but Busto goes to 1-0 closing 25-19.
In the second set Wolosz and her teammates start with a different spirit, see Chirichella’s ace that leads to the initial 1-4. Haak and Zhu score a couple of stretches (9-12), but the opponents return forcefully to lead: Fahr gives consistency to the yellow-blue wall that leads to 22-22 with the complicity of Haak (9 points of the Swede in the partial with 2 blocks, the central yellow-blue top on the wall with 4 at the end), then it is Busto who has the decisive stretch at the end of the set. But the world champion center was able to tidy up the wall when the Panthers needed it.
In the third set De Gennaro leads the sextet to a tougher start in defense, Lubian blocks for 4-8 which gives a consistent break to the Panthers. Fahr and Haak dig holes in the taraflex between the first halves and attacks in place 2 (10-12), Gabi breaks the hands of the wall (13-16, 80% positive reception for the Brazilian in the third), Zhu does the same with the pipe (16-20). Zhu invents a great shot that gives the set point (4 points with 50% in the set, he will end up almost in double figures at 10), concretized by Haak with 19-24, always a fairytale Swede in the 5 partials.
It is still an excellent Prosecco DOC that begins the fourth set (0-4), it is a fairytale exchange between the two teams that is worth the 4-8 of Haak.
The fifth set is needed to decide who wins: it starts with Fahr’s block, Daalderop also scores at the break (2-3), the first mini-breaks are beaten by Haak (4-7, amazing Swede with 34 points at the end!). After an endless evening, Wolosz raises again for the Swede the 6-10, there is Nika Daalderop’s shot in the closing, decisive until 9-15 to bring the first two points of the yellow-blue championship.
The attention of the Panthers remains on the championship, towards the debut at the Palaverde: Sunday 12 October at 16 the 2^ day will see the home match against Cuneo Granda Volley.
