Third of the championship and first midweek for the Panthers: Prosecco DOC A. Carraro challenges Omag-Mt San Giovanni in Marignano, a newly promoted team in A1. First ever challenge between the two teams, coach Santarelli’s team arrives after 5 points and two victories in as many rounds of the championship, in view there is the Trieste Super Cup on Saturday, the first trophy of the season. The yellow-blue coach relies on Wolosz and Haak for the diagonal, Daalderop and Zhu are the wings, Fahr and Chirichella are the middles, De Gennaro the libero. On the other side, coach Bellano chooses Straube-Ortolani for the diagonal, Bracchi and Nardo as spikers, Kochurina and Caruso central, free Tellone.

The Panthers already gassed at the start, with Fahr sealing the excellent serving turn with the ace that was worth 1-7; a couple of stabs by Zhu (perfect reception at 50% and textbook defenses in the first set), then Chirichella is engaged by Wolosz for 4-12, even the yellow-blue captain will score with a fortuitous shoulder blow the 10-19. The Polish will block for 11-21; after a tough defense by Serena Scognamillo, in her first official appearance with Prosecco DOC, Haak’s point arrives which is worth the set point (12-25, 6 for the Swede at 0-1 with 75%).

The second set is more balanced: Omag-Mt defends with intensity and long rallies are born, see Zhu’s 5-5. The Chinese will finish as top scorer with 15 points, 2 blocks and 54% in attack. Chirichella signs two breaks with the fast (8-10, Neapolitan protagonist in the match with 6 points, 1 block and 0 errors in attack), Scognamillo still has space in the second line (12-14): Daalderop and Haak stretch for coach Santarelli’s team (14-17, Dutch with 5 points, 1 ace and 0 errors in reception in the set), Zhu will do the same leading with 4 points on the partial of 1-5 which leads to 0-2, Adigwe also contributes with his centimeters in the front line (19-25).

Chirichella is solid from 9 meters and launches the first break of the yellow-blue third set with 3 points from Haak, again on the cover (1-5, the opposite will count 14 at the end which will earn her the third consecutive MVP award). When Wolosz blocks for 1-8 she made her debut in the Sillah match (the second for the director), after Fahr’s first half of 6-13 Matilde Munarini goes to serve, making her season debut. Ewert takes the reins in direction and Adigwe returns to place 2, coach Santarelli relies on the turnover to close the contest and is not disappointed . Adigwe and Ewert keep the Panthers on +7 (15-22), the match point comes with an opponent’s error.

The Panthers will find the championship in seven days, challenging Monviso Volley in Villafranca di Piemonte for the fourth championship challenge of the season, at the Pala Trieste on Saturday the first seasonal trophy is played against Numia Vero Volley Milano.
