In the spectacular theater of the Inalpi Arena in Turin, Prosecco DOC A. Carraro Imoco Conegliano is facing Igor Gorgonzola Novara for the first semi-final of the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa, access to tomorrow’s final is up for grabs. Great enthusiasm in the splendid Piedmontese sports hall, hundreds of fans with yellow and blue jerseys support the Panthers, reigning champions of the competition.

The teams take the field, coach Daniele Santarelli chooses the classic sextet with captain Wolosz in the direction, Haak opposite, Gabi and Zhu spikers, Fahr and Chirichella central, Moki De Gennaro free. On the other side, coach Lorenzo Bernardi deploys Cambi-Tolok, Herbots-Alsmeier, Squarcini-Bonifacio, libero De Nardi.

In the first set Novara starts well (0-3), but it is a flash in the pan, to the sound of defenses and blocks there is immediately the counterbreak of the Panthers who take the lead 5-3. We travel with elastic, Alsmeier brings Igor back to +2 (7-9). Errors abound on both sides, those who make fewer mistakes take over the ball of the game and coach Santarelli’s team with order and the beautiful blocks of Haak and Fahr first overtakes and then tries to stretch (16-13). Prosecco DOC Imoco grows in the defensive wall and takes off decisively with the points of Haak and Chirichella: 20-16. Tolok (9 points in the set) brings the Piedmontese closer (21-19), but Gabi and Bella Haak repel the threat with effective attacks (23-19). It’s not over, Novara’s block for -1 (23-22). After the time out , the Swede (8 points in the set) scores again and Conegliano closes the second set ball with Zhu, 25-23.

In the second set at the beginning we travel in balance, again Haak stands at the wall for 7-5, while Igor relies a lot on the former Squarcini to attack from the center. The other former player, the Pantera Chirichella, blocks for 10-7 (she will put 3 on the scoresheet at the end) and launches the Prosecco DOC Imoco that takes enthusiasm and forces coach Bernardi to time out after Haak’s 11-7. Novara comes back down decisive with Tolok’s solutions, inspired in attack (13-12), but Fahr and Haak strike after a great defensive work by De Gennaro and her teammates. Conegliano stays ahead, rejects Igor’s comeback attempts and continues to play well in all the fundamentals, increasing the advantage. Conegliano escapes, Gabi signs the 24-18 then the Panthers fly to 2-0 thanks to the 25-20 signed by Haak.

Also in the third set it is Prosecco DOC Imoco to hold the reins of the game from the beginning (7-3), the Piedmontese try, but tonight Wolosz and her teammates are not in the mood for discounts and continue to push, aggressive in defense and precise in attack to limit the flare-ups of the hosts. The “usual” Haak (top scorer with 15 points, also 3 blocks) puts down the 17-14, then De Gennaro works miracles and Zhu places the ace (20-16). Cambi and teammates do not give up, a moment of offensive blackout with two errors in a row of the Venetian attack relaunches the ambitions of Igor which rises to -1 (20-19), but a time out by coach Santarelli puts the Panthers back in control (22-19). Tolok insists, but the final rush of a Gabi in great shape (14 points at the end) allows Prosecco DOC Imoco to close in crescendo with a comfortable 25-21 which means final!

Afterwards, after the spectacular singing performance of Rose Villain, the second semifinal is staged between Savino del Bene Scandicci and Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri, tomorrow the winner will challenge Conegliano in the final at 15.00 live on Rai2.
