Another round, another run and another victory for the Panthers of Prosecco DOC Imoco who also in Cuneo against Honda Olivero dictate the law without making any discounts, yet another 3-0 season, first place consolidated and also a nice opportunity for coach Santarelli to rotate his lineup given the close commitments and the upcoming goal of the World Club Championship.
Veneto sextet with Japan’s Seki giving a rest to captain Wolosz at the setter, opposite Haak, at center Eckl’s chance paired with Fahr, rotations also in the female setters with Zhu and Lukasik, libero De Gennaro. Coach Pintus lines up for the hosts Signorile-Bjelica, Cecconello and Polder in the middle, slappers Bakodimou and Kapralova, libero Panetoni.
In the challenge between the Piedmontese “cats” and the Italian champion “panthers” the first set sees a fairly balanced trend at the beginning, despite Conegliano’s attempts to escape the Piedmontese stay close (8-10) with good work by captain Signorile and Bjelica (6 points in the set). Prosecco DOC Imoco unleashes the Panthers with the power and variety of the shots of Martyna Lukasik (5 points in the set) and a Bella Haak (4) who continues her excellent moment, comes an important stretch: 8-14. Nanami Seki now relies on star Zhu Ting to keep the result safe, and the Chinese responds well (13-18). De Gennaro ups the defensive tempo, then Sarah Fahr takes the lead at the wall for the new +6 (14-20), time out Honda Olivero. Coach Santarelli’s team, however, doesn’t let up, heading straight for the conquest of the first set forfeited thanks to the final parallel of 20-25 sealed by a brilliant Zhu Ting, top Gialloblù scorer with 6 points in the partial.
Slow start for the Panthers in the second set, a series of errors forced coach Santarelli to stop the game after the sudden 6-1 with which Cecconello and her teammates surprised Conegliano. Immediate comeback with Prosecco DOC Imoco’s “eastern” burst thanks to points from Zhu and Seki (7-5). Seki again, also prolific as a first-period scorer, brings Conegliano closer again, which ties at 7 with an immediate counterbreak. Cuneo’s team relies on an excellent Bjelica who attacks effectively, but on the other side Seki is spoiled for choice to find the right attacker, Haak and Lukasik also resume hammering, then Zhu Ting (5 points in the set with 2 walls) still works well with class and experience both at wall and attack, comes the +4, 9-13 and time out for coach Pintus.
The Chinese player continues to rage under the net to the tune of walls and winning attacks, then Fahr’s fast breaks also arrive for 10-16. After the initial exploit Cuneo collapses under the blows of Prosecco DOC Imoco, which ruthlessly keeps pushing, a confident Katja Eckl (punctual on every call tonight) finds winning attacks and like the Bolzano player her teammates also hammer concentrated to the end for a comfortable 17-25 and it’s 2-0.
The young Panthers get off to a great start in the opening phase of the third set, Seki ups the pace in attack and is also a protagonist in defense, Eckl places an ace, a Martyna Lukasik in great form shoots winning attacks and there is the first Gialloblù stretch: 6-10. Honda Olivero clings to her pride, captain Signorile spurs her teammates and the Piedmontese try to make life difficult for De Gennaro and her teammates. It takes the knockout blows of Zhu, at times unstoppable (7 points in the set!), to drive the hosts back, 9-14.
Prosecco DOC Imoco cannot get distracted, Bakodimou responds well to the barrage of the Chinese star, the Greek seals the -4 points (12-16), then Martinez (entered in double change with Turco) is good at sealing the -3. It’s Haak’s turn (14-18) well handled by a very good Nanami Seki, who will be named MVP of the match. It will be the last gasp of coach Pintus’ team, from there the defense of De Gennaro and Seki, unleashed in spectacular saves and dives, doesn’t drop anything anymore, then Fahr places the ace, Lukasik and Haak (12 points apiece) complete the job and Prosecco DOC Imoco brings home without pain another nice 3-0 outside with the 18-25 that closes the games sealed by“Zhuper” Ting ( top scorer’s try with 18 points, 55% in attack and 2 walls, without any errors!).
It is the 12th win out of 12 matches played in the league for the Panthers (already mathematically Winter Champions in A1) who will be back on the court at Palaverde (7 p.m.) on Saturday with Il Bisonte Firenze.
