Last first match in the regular season for Prosecco DOC Imoco Volleyball, which, already mathematically winter champions, also beats Il Bisonte Firenze and seizes at Palaverde the 13th match out of 13 competitions in the ascending phase of the season. Now the Champions and then on Saturday we leave for the World Club Championship adventure in China.
“Usual” turnover for coach Santarelli who, also in view of Tuesday’s Champions match with Plovdiv and the upcoming World Club Championship, lines up in front of 500 fans Wolosz with young Adiwge opposite, at center Chirichella and Lubian, setters Gabi and Lanier, libero De Gennaro. Florence presents itself with Battistoni-Malual, former Butigan with Mancini at center, Nervini and Davyskiba slappers, free Leonardi.
The guests were knocked out at the start by the yellow-blue cyclone, the Italian champions took off like a rocket (7-0) with the winning strokes of 18-year-old Merit Adiwge (5 points in the set with an exceptional 62%), always ready when called upon, and the Italian Marina Lubian (5 also for her with 2 aces in the set) deadly on serve. The initial treasure is preserved even when Il Bisonte starts to carbonize, and in the final another acceleration of the Venetian women who find excellent spoils (4 points each) also from star Gabi, USA Lanier and veteran Chirichella. 25-12 the closing entrusted to Marina Lubian.
The second set on the other hand is a different story, Nervini and her teammates defending and rebounding effectively putting the home Panthers on the ropes thanks to the following attack shots of Malual and Nervini (4 points each in the set) . In the middle phase with Mancini’s walls and Malual’s excellent serves, the Tuscans even went ahead (15-17) and believed, despite a Prosecco DOC Imoco that kept alive with De Gennaro’s great defense and Lanier and Adiwge‘s attacks (5 more points scored in the set for the baby panther).
It takes a blaze by Gabi and a wall by Chirichella to tie, after a moment of pause Prosecco DOC Imoco gets back to grinding play. The final sprint of the second set is very heated, Davyskiba strikes, but Wolosz makes magic at the direction, Gabi and Chirichella (5 points in the set and 100% in attack!) stretch 22-20. A great rush in the last bars by Khalia Lanier, very inspired in the set (she will close with 7 points, 2 aces and 50% in attack) to the tune of attacks and winning serves allows Conegliano to win 25-22 a hard-fought set.
The third set is also enjoyable, thanks to a Florence always lively on defense, but Conegliano can count on sharp weapons such as Merit Adiwge (great match, top scorer with 16 points), deadly at the service and in attack, Gabi (11) and an excellent Khalia Lanier (14 points, 2 aces and 2 walls with 55% in attack), not to mention a simply perfect Cristina Chirichella (MVP with 10 points and 89% in attack!). The partial soon takes the Gialloblù way (14-5) and the final is a catwalk for Prosecco DOC Imoco with the Panthers having fun on the court comes out to applause with the 13th win out of 13 matches in the first leg, for Coach Bendandi’s team a convincing performance at times, but too difficult to bridge the technical and physical gap between the two teams.
