Pre-season with a taste of luxury at the Courmayeur Sport Center: the Courmayeur Cup begins, the Prosecco DOC A. Carraro faces Igor Novara, it is the semifinal of the quadrangular with the best of the Italian championship, a week before the start of the dances in A1.
Coach Daniele Santarelli relies on Wolosz in the direction, Haak is the opposite, Daalderop and Zhu are the spikers, Fahr and Chirichella the middles, De Gennaro the libero. On the other side, coach Lorenzo Bernardi puts Cambi on the dribble, Tolok is the opposite, Herbots and Alsmeier are the spikers, Bonifacio and Igiede the middles, De Nardi is the libero.
A lightning-fast start for Isabelle Haak (8 points in the first set), the Panthers take a 6-2 lead with an attack from seat 2 by the Swede. Then Novara recovers and the set is played on the wire, with Tolok the mosquitoes snap to 13-17 and coach Santarelli calls the first timeout of the competition. Adigwe enters the front line (14-17), with her shortly after Ewert composing a completely renewed diagonal: the first assist of the American goes to Chirichella (16-19), “Meme” finds two lethal aces with a perfect service turn and Daalderop blocks for the equalizer (23-23). In the decisive points Fahr blocks (4 yellow-blue blocks in the first half) and Haak writes 1-0.
In the second set, the first break is by Zhu between attack and block (11-9, Chinese with 5 points and 2 blocks after the second set), Daalderop imitates her partner by putting two in series between pipe and place 4 (14-10). Fahr makes his way with first halves and aces (19-17), the Panthers keep their distance with Zhu’s hands in defense: there is the freshness of the Ewert-Adigwe diagonal at the end of the set, Novara gives the shoulder at the right time and leads 1-1.
A flawless serving turn by Wolosz leads the Panthers towards the first positive partial of the set (5-0, Haak’s block for 7-8), coach Santarelli brings the Panthers back into the game with a timeout that immediately has an effect: Fahr and Haak write -1 twice, then the battery of spikers changes with the entry of Gabi and Sillah. The Brazilian shows up with 15-14, De Gennaro and her teammates are unable to find themselves in the set after a set characterized by wide rotations, with 6 yellow-blues in the scoreboard of the third set on the final 19-25.
Combo first half and ace, it’s the perfect start of the fourth set by Sarah Fahr, Gabi and Haak legitimize the break advantage (7-8, Swedish top scorer at the end with 22 points and 4 blocks), then the Panthers have to chase to keep the match alive. It is always the friends Gabi and Bella who bring points to the attack (16-19), then it is the turn of Lubian from 9 meters who makes his debut in the match. The 17-20 coincides with the first round of Neneh Sillah, Ewert and Adigwe return to the court. Chirichella cancels a match point, then Novara closes on 18-25.
But the pre-season tournament did not end here: tomorrow at 16:30 Prosecco DOC A. Carraro takes the field for the 3rd/4th place final against Numia Vero Volley Milano.
