Sunday of Finals for the 2nd City of Pordenone Trophy, in front of about a thousand fans who crowded the bleachers of the PalaCrisafulli, also present the Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani who greeted and posed with the Panthers.
The first match is the 3/4 place final between the Italian Champions, the Panthers of Prosecco DOC A.Carraro Imoco Volley, and the Greek Champions of Panathinaikos Athens. Coach Mora struggling with ailments and various absences lines up Di-Czerwonska, Piovesan-Sillah, Folie-Cekulaev, libero De Gennaro.
The fatigue of the preparation and the five sets played a few hours ago are felt and the first set is a monologue of Pana who commands the operations from the first minute (1-4), then they spread with a series of aces that soon crush the yellow-blue resistance (9-18). The bench tries to change the cards on the table with the entry of Orso, Gordon and Manfredini, but apart from a few flashes of the baby Czerwonka and a couple of blocks by Cekulaev the road is marked. At 14-24 there is a good jolt with the points of Yao Di and Orso, but it is too late and the Greeks of coach Chiappini dragged by White and Orvosova impose themselves 18-25.
In the second set, Prosecco DOC Imoco closes ranks and begins to receive well, giving Yao Di the opportunity to create play for his forwards. Sillah grows in attack, the defense also rises in tone with De Gennaro the usual protagonist and the yellow-blue team holds the advantage (11-7, 19-15). Elena Arici also shows up in a good entry into the second line, then Anna Piovesan unleashed (7 points in the set!) places a nice hat-trick and closes the set 25-22.
The Treviso spiker continues to push even at the start of the third set, from her great service turn comes the break that launches the Panthers (7-1). After the time out, White leads the reaction of the Hellenic (9-7). The partial becomes balanced. Pana reaches parity at 10 in a typical pre-season match with the two teams turning the light on and off in search of a continuity yet to be found. Yao Di serves, then Sillah (4 p) and an excellent Piovesan (6 p in the set) find points to make Conegliano escape again (17-14). Panathinaikos is not there and draws again at 19, then overtakes with Kypirissi (5 p). Piovesan closes after two top defenses by De Gennaro: 25-23.
Fourth set and immediately Kostantinidou and her teammates in the mood for redemption launch themselves ahead (6-1). Time out by coach Mora, then De Gennaro raises the pace in defense, Piovesan hits (20 points at the end, best scorer), Sillah flies and the panthers find themselves on minus 2 (8-6). The Greeks, however, are not caught unprepared, putting a partial of 6-2, forcing the Imoco bench to call time out (14-8). The Pana girls come out of the time out inspired, in particular White, proving to be a force at the wall and leading the Greeks to an overwhelming advantage of 20-9 with aces and winning attacks. Despite the commitment of Czerwonka and the monumental Monica De Gennaro, the Greeks prove to be unsurpassed on the block, reaching +11 and quickly conclude the set (25-14). In the tie break Gordon and Manfredini enter, their energy gives sprint to the Panthers who fly 8-4. Julia Gordon scores important attacks, White responds, but the Panthers grit their teeth and Manfredini closes the match with an ace (15-10).
In the final for 1/2 place between the Friulian Talmassons, newly promoted to A1, and Choruslife Bergamo, the ………….. who won the second edition of the City of Pordenone Tournament, organized by Prosecco DOC A. Carraro Imoco Volley in collaboration with the Municipality of Pordenone which today attended the awards ceremony with the Councilor for Sport Elena Ceolin. Also present on behalf of BCC Pordenone Monsile, partner of the tournament, were Annarosa Martel, member of the Board of Directors and Massimo Drigo, Head of Members of the BCC (see photo).
